Our students’ success stories

Amrita Anam, Ph.D. ’19, information systems, Bangladesh

Anam wanted to attend university on the East Coast to be near her sister in New York. She found an assistantship at UMBC, which helped her afford a Ph.D. program. That, and the support she received upon her arrival here, gave her the foundation she needed to thrive. “When I spoke to Dr. Gangopadhyay, I really liked how warm he was. There was no way I could do this without the support I got from my department.”

Tobi Odunsi, M.S. ’19, cybersecurity, Nigeria

Odunsi visited UMBC when a wedding brought him to Maryland for the first time. He knew immediately it was a good fit. “As soon as I stepped into the school, I knew.” While here, he worked with mentor Damian Doyle to implement software-defined networking into its data center, making UMBC the first school in the University System of Maryland to do so.
